As soon as popped the cork I got an aroma of fresh, pure maple syrup. In the glass there were also baking spices and star anise notes. Sweet plum upfront with a thin syrupy body. Smooth, very little tannins with the tiniest bit of heat on the finish. Not much to think about but will go good with dinner.

No defect detected but this doesn’t really work for me. Much too young? Took quite some time to open up a bit, and left us with slightly herbaceous aromas. Medium length and concentration.

Can’t ever go wrong with Chateau St. Jean. Solid wine for the price. I love the label, reminds me when I first went there and laid by the palm tree, very drunk.

For a cab it's sweeter and lacks a bit of bite, but it's pleasant and drinkable (especially in 1/2 price wine bottle night 😉).
