What's not to love? Impeccable balance of silky tannins, present acidity, and still noticeable cassis, blackberry fruit. Plenty of complex tertiary aromas, classic cigar box and spice, ready to drink but I'm betting on another 12-15years of drinking pleasure for this great wine. 1996 vintage.

The '96 Sociando Mallet is hard to resist, sporting a rich, dark bouquet of crushed black cherry, blackberry, mocha, baking spice, a hint of olive and sweet herbs. It's silky and pliant on the palate, showing dried cherry, spice, inner floral tones and hints of undergrowth. The fruit turned juicier through the finish, with fresh cherry and blackberry. This is perfectly mature and firing on all cylinders.

Felt so young still. Lots of bell pepper smells but also cassis, leather and tobacco. Tanins were still present but don't perturb the enjoyment of the wine....
