A dark purple robe with ruby red traces. Slightly burnt coffee and oak upfront on the nose with vanilla providing support. The fruit is still lively and expressive with raspberries, black cherries, and plums.
This is a big Pomerol. Big and powerful but still sleek. It lifts but not to bulk up. Highly concentrated so it needs to be decanted hard but after it opens up a bit it’s much more approachable. The Merlot provides solid structure and depth, while the 20% of Cabernet Franc provides some rusticity and nice balance.
Despite the overall bigness of the wine, it never gets flabby or discombobulated. It manages to maintain that core of finesse. Dark fruits follow to the palate mixing with plenty of oak and vanilla. Just the slightest touch damp moss and espresso on the medium finish.

I love the slightly odiferous potpourri smell on this wine. I’ve only ever had it with Hegarty #2. It’s like dead flowers on the forest floor and tastes of tight fruit.

Very dark and fruit forward which is unusual for a Bordeaux especially one that is 100% merlot. A touch of alcohol on the nose. Age able and a good bargain. I think my bro would like it too.
