Château Saint-Pierre
St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
Opened about 30min before service; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2010 currently pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, developing with dark cherry, blackberry, plum, raspberry compote, pencil lead, licorice, mint, forest floor, tobacco, green bell pepper, cocoa and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin, medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly bitter. The nose is the star with such a complex perfume; I could spend the entire night with my nose in the glass. A lovely Fourth Growth. Drink now through 2040+.

Aug 13th, 20242019 vintage. This estate is on a roll, and this 2019 is absolutely stunning. Deep dark red. Impressive nose with ripe black cherries, blackberries, cassis, flowers, cedar wood, and lead pencil. Very elegant but powerful at the same time, with layers of black fruit, a velvety tannic structure, fresh acidity, and some salinity in the very long finish. Abv. 14%. Excellent.

Jul 22nd, 2024Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1993 pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of desiccated black fruit: cassis, blackberries, along with celery, tobacco, green bell pepper, forest floor, and baking spices. On the palate the wine is dry with medium tannins (integrated) and medium+ acid. The finish is medium and satisfying. This was a very nice showing for the 1993 and it’s clear that well-stored examples are drinking well right now and should continue to do so through 2031.

Jul 16th, 20242012 vintage. 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot. An excellent effort in a largely forgotten vintage. Cassis, blackberries, cedar, and Pauillac-like lead pencil.

May 25th, 2023On this Friday night I have opened the 2018 Château Saint-Pierre from Saint Julien of the Left Bank of Bordeaux. A blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot.
On the nose I am getting black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, clove, black pepper, herbs, menthol, smokey oak and dark earth.
On the palate there is black cherry, black raspberry, blueberry, black currant, floral notes, graphite, oak and earth.
This wine is full bodied that is tight in the mouth with medium + to high acidity and medium + to high grainy tannins that has a long dark fruit earthy finish. Have great weekend please be safe and stay healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Nov 18th, 2019Very enjoyable Wednesday Wine Committee lunch today with @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt hosting. Same format as always...1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine all tasted blind.
This producer was new to me. Loved it! The nose has such dark fruit wrapped in smoked/chargrilled meats. Not overly savory and zero funk, but just a killer mesh of sweet and savory. Tobacco, graphite, cassis up front with a finish of blackberry pie, leather, and herbs de Provence. This could be a wonderful wine in 7-10yrs. I called this left bank 2012 vintage.
