Opened four hours prior to service and decanted for 45 minutes before returning to the bottle. The 1982 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate stating of the tears. There remained some sediment despite being decanted. On the nose, the wine is vinous with an intriguing combination of ripe and desiccated (mostly) fruits: cassis, brambles, green bell pepper, leather, tobacco and a hint of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is elegant, refined and satisfying. This is a classic expression of Margaux and certainly at peak. Sublime. Drink now through 2032+.

The last bottle at Mick’s Cellar tasting last Saturday and what a finale it was. Amazingly rich and full bodied for a 42 year old wine from the fabulous 1982 vintage in Bordeaux. One of the best wines (probably top 3) I’ve ever had was the 1982 Chateau Margaux and this nearby neighbour just reinforces that tasting some years ago. Plenty of red and black berry. Full bodied and delicious, still with a future. Supple fluid tannins with a loong finish. A treat to taste this. Thanks Mick.

This has held its age well. Subtle fruit, good tannin structure. It only needs about 20-30 mins in the decanter. A lot of tertiary flavors, mushroom, forest floor, earthy. Great experience!

Dusty and salty on the nose, savory and salty on the palate with muted spices. Long finish and quite refined.

Black currant, black pepper, blackberries, chocolate, coffee. Medium to full bodied, good tannins and acidity. I think it will hold well.

Slight BlackBerry, Chocolate, woodforest, woody,
Dry. Mid+acidity, dissolved and small rest of tannin

Best time to drink, chateau person said.

I felt that acidity relatively stands out, and lack of concentration even if dense oak aroma filled in the blank instead.

Great bottle, purchased at the chateau about 15 years ago. I only wish I could remember the exact price tag. I think it was under 25 Euros though.
