The strong florality, tar, woodsmoke, leather, and lingering tannins were all pointing me towards a Nebbiolo in our blind, but the meatiness, darker fruit profile, and subtle peppery herbs should have been dead giveaways of its Rhone origin. The failed guess aside, the wine was actually quite nice even though the ripeness was a little fatiguing for me. Plus points to the tangy finish and underlying minerality which developed with air. Good now, but definitely better with age.

Aromas of Bacon, savoury berry, leather and thistles. Plummy on the palate. Only a tiny hint of Brett which actually adds complexity and interest. Purists will hate this but that’s my impression. 72 weeks ago I said this wine had no Brett but it is now poking its head up and Brett only becomes more apparent with age so I need to drink the remaining few bottles I have. Great value for $20. Had another bottle 6 weeks later on 6th July 2019. Still a little Brett there but not unpleasantly so. Will be interesting to see how it shows next day but largely consistent notes to the tasting from 6 weeks ago.

Drinking really well. Poundable even. Nose full of flowers, red meat and earth. Built for pleasure.

Slightly funky nose with some generic ripe red fruits on the nose. Medium tannins, but smooth with baking spices and coffee. Not as fruity.
