Château Mouton Rothschild
Le Petit Mouton Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend

This wine screams left bank Bordeaux. The final blend is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon; 22% Merlot; and 15% Cabernet Franc. Great depth of flavour particularly for a 2nd wine. The medium + palate shows an inner core of strength and opulence which exhibits the class of the producer and the excellence of the vintage. Tertiary aromas and flavours. See last Delectable note of 2020. Very integrated, balanced and polished. Prompts the old saying in a London Club, “Just damn good claret my man”. Excellent drinking now but still 5+ years left in it.

Wine No. 5 of the 8 x 2009 Cabernets we tasted blind. Brief notes. Colour of deep crimson. Loved the nose of violet and stalky notes - the oak present but in balance. A medium to full bodied palate. Again, a long life ahead. Ranked #4 out of 8 Cabernets on the day.

Showing nicely right now. Blackcurrant, blackberry, herbs. Full on the palate with a reasonable ability to sustain. Good intensity.

A bruiser of a wine. Very extracted and fruit driven. Needs several years to integrate the deep tannins. If drinking in 2016, give it several hours of air in a decanter.

There is almost no one that wouldn't judge this wine as a CA Cabernet in a blind tasting, even some Master Sommeliers. The 03 Le Petit Mouton is dark fruit (strong black plum), big caramel & vanilla, black tea, some star anise, super soft leather (near velvet), supple round elegant finish. 2003 is a ripe fruit driven vintage.
