Château Montrose
Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
St. Estèphe, Médoc, Bordeaux, France

The 2012 Montrose has a taut and focused bouquet with crisp blackberry, tobacco and light earthy scents on the nose. Fine vigour and class evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, fine acidity, lightly spiced with a nicely proportioned and focused finish. This is a solid, almost swarthy Montrose, though it is surpassed by more recent vintages. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

Tonight I have the pleasure of tasting the 2012 Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
The nose has beautiful aromas of black currant, black cherry, blackberry, rose's, mushroom, pencil shavings, herbs, eucalyptus and mocha.
A very expressive palate of black currant, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, black pepper and green bell pepper.
This wine is full bodied with a silky smooth mouth feel, medium + acidity and medium + mouth coating tannins that extend out to a long clean dark fruit finish. A captivating wine to say the least and just another example of a left bank Bordeaux done right from Château Montrose. Enjoy your weekend and may your December be very eventful. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This is really at an excellent point where fruit and some tertiary notes are combining so good together.

A baby but a nice baby, this one needs a firm shake in the decanter and some time in the glass, but it delivers!

Jan 28th, 2024We wanted to give a Montrose a try before the 10 year mark. No disappointments here ! Very dark blackish rubi robe, very reticent nose with hints of violets, a full bodied mouth with very silky tannins and very long finish. Decant 2 to 3 hours in advance now or give it another 5 to 7 years. Great wine that always punches above its ranking (in spite highly ranked!) and enthusiastically recommended.
