A bit past its prime. Died in the glass after about 20 minutes.

Totally loved this wine, it definitely needed a little time to blossom, not decanted, but after about an hour it had a dried dark berry intensity & so much beautiful tertiary complexity, it was a bonus it had been stored so well.

Woah!! This was so f'n good. Round and voluptuous and still plenty of life yet. A compelling and simply stunning wine.

1966 vintage. Last tasted 9.20.23. That bottle was a little "chunkier." This one was more refined. Decanted and tasted nearly immediately and throughout a 2 hour window. Throwing the expected kitchen sink's worth of sed. Color initially seemed lighter, like 30+ year old red Burg but ended up being a tad darker than that. Light-medium body. Earth, summer dirt and Valrhona chocolate in the nose. All this plus dried cherries in the frontal palate finish. Not much to speak of on the back end. Rated that 9.20.23 bottle an 8.8 and this is slightly better. Still...a definite rush to crush this. 11.11.23.

1966 vintage. Decanted and tasted multiple times after 10 mins-2 hours open. From the days before Montrose became immortal...structure/framework still there in the mid-palate. Surprising amount of fruit at the front door. Finish thins out along with the concentration. Better showing than expected. Drink 'em if ya got 'em. 9.20.23.

Very dark robe bricking on the rim. Looks at least 20 years younger. Nose of steak tartare, flint, cedar, blackcurrant and crushed flowers. Very complex and elegant in the mouth, medium light bodied and mostly melted tannins. This is top notch. And has plenty of life left.
