Château Laroze
Famille Meslin St. Émilion Grand Cru Merlot Blend
2016 vintage. 62% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark red with some orange evolution on the rim. Raspberries and cedar wood , with truffles lurking in the background. Medium-bodied, with slightly jammy red fruit. The tannins are not as velvety as both the 2020 and 2022, but still there is a good balance, complexity and length. Maybe closing down a bit, the future will tell. However, I don't see this ever reaching the level of the 2020 and certainly not 2022. Outperformed by the 2016 Couvent des Jacobins tasted alongside.
Abv. 13,5%.

2022 vintage. 62% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense raspberry fruit and subtle spices in a velvety tannic structure. Serious length too. Terrific value. Ab. 14%.

Oct 7th, 20242020 vintage. A rather obscure Grand Cru Classé Saint-Emilion, but it has been classified since the start of the classification in 1955. 27 hectares in one big plot, organically farmed. Hubert de Bouard consults since 2009. Merlot and Cabernet Franc with tiny amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. A solid effort with an attractive floral nose, good fruit concentration, soft tannin and a distinctive mineral finish. Terrific value. Abv 14%.

Sep 2nd, 2023Dark ruby colour. Dense nose: oak, blackberry/blackcurrant, cedar, very Bordeaux. Palate, supple, balanced, medium-bodied, with rounded tannins. Final average duration. Correct for its price. Classic style: the perfect Saint-Émilion à Papa. Not my favourite style but for its price, it's correct.
Robe rubis sombre.
