Château La Nerthe
Les Cassagnes Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Red Rhone Blend
Wow. Thought this was a Ch. du Pape. Savoury. Smooth. Dark fruit. Slight smoke, barn, and roses. Came together well with and without food (beef and broccoli; a challenge for sure). I found this for $125HKD ($16USD)... Making it my bargain find of the year!

Tasting Note:Intense nose of ripe cherries, cassis, sweet spices. On the palate is fresh, the tannins are fine. The finish is long and accompanied by candied red fruit.
Food Match:Beef, pork, poultry
A simple Rhone. Light on the palate but this has some elegance.
The 2013 Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Cote-du-Rhone Villages opens with bright aromas of cherries and plum which are layered with white pepper, spices, licorice and lavender. On the palate this is beautifully refined with silky tannins and wonderful flavors that build on the finish. Overall, a solid effort which should drink well over the course of the next 5-7 years. 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan. (Best 2017-2023) - December, 2015 (JD)
Intense, youthful nose of loganberries, strawberries and cherries underscored by a hint of spicy liquorice. Fresh mouthfeel with mineral, dry tannins delivering an appealing finesse. Made with precision and now coming into its own.
Deep red color with a purple rim. On the nose, intense red fruits with some black cherry notes. A beautiful freshness on the palate, with roundness. The finish is long with notes of candied red fruit highlighted by sweet spices. Fresh, silky texture on the finish.Blend: 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan
