This was excellent tonight. Plush and sweet, with a textured mouthfeel and extended finish.

It has been awhile since my last posting. I had caught the flu back around 01/21/19 and it has taken me until now to really get all my senses back to honestly rate these wines properly. Tonight I have opened the 2016 Château La Confession Saint-Émilion Grand Cru by Jean-Philippe Janoueix. The blend is 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc.

The nose is showing good black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, clove, tobacco leaf, violet, graphite and earth.

On the palate is luscious dark fruit, black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, black plum, graphite, pencil shavings, tobacco, cedar and mocha.

This wine is full bodied with a soft juicy mouthfeel, medium+ acidity and medium + chewy tannins that lead to a long sustained dark fruit finish. I am glad to be back tasting and feeling 100%. It is the middle of the week so please be safe and work into the weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

I can smell this all day! Still a baby by far on the palate but in 5 years this will get in the zone and stay there for 20+ Coffee bean, raspberry, cassis, fresh acidity on the palate and the the tannins come in like Lebron and swat the palate shut.

Really nice wine after a couple of hours in the decanter. Still really good the next night after sitting in the decanter for 24 hours. It definitely needs to sleep a few more years before before showing its true colors.

The second wine this afternoon enjoyed by a close friend and myself was the 2010 Chateau LaConfession St.Emillion Grand Cru.

The nose has savory notes of bing cherries, blackberry, stone, vanilla and smoke.

On the first sip gave notes of black cherry, blackberry, spice, mocha, coffee and a herbaceous note that I really like.

This wine has medium + acidity with medium + fine tannins that fill out the mouth nicely. This offering is 71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc a typical right bank blend.

A very nice continuation of a wonderful afternoon with a close dear friend.

The nose is nice and floral, combined with barrel toast and rich dark fruits.
On the palette, the wine has grip and texture. The merlot contributes edginess, while the cab franc delivers a delicate sweet note. Acidity is superb. Tannins are still a touch green. Pump your brakes on this and let it rest for a few more years, depending on your favorite Bdx style.
14.5% abv. Approx. 67% merlot and 33% cab franc.

Modern style yet with nice restraint. Drinking nicely right now.

Not going to expound upon vintages and weather. This is a really nice wine. Some will say this is a Janoueix play on a new World style. But I find it compellingly balanced for a Bordeaux from a generously vaunted region. The nose a mish-mash of arboreal cuts, with pine interceding, but also a slick, black, stony core that sloughs smoky, elemental suggestions. A tar and graphite mouthful, showing depth without getting gritty or pronounced, then settling on a supple note of blueberry-currant on the carry through, but pleasant and enduring like an empowering conquest! Rise above! Plenty of residual perfume to make it salacious. Dirty as you want to be.
