Château Kirwan
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a great one from Bordeaux.
Dark ruby in color with a short brick rim.
Nice nose of black currants, cherries, sweet raspberries, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, wood, dark coffee, light vegetables, pencil lead and black pepper.
Full bodied and gentle with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, vinaigrette and wet leaves.
Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This third growth Left Bank Bordeaux, is starting to drink very nicely now. Nicely balanced with a big mouthfeel.
Earthy and spicy with lots of fruits. Already showing nice complexity, and beginning to show age on the palate.
Needs 3 hours to open up properly and show the big tannins, so be patient and don't drink it right out of the bottle.
This 10 year old is good by itself as a sipping wine to enjoy with friends.
Still young and needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature.
Robert Parker 92 points.
I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers.
A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 13.5% Cabernet Franc and 13.5% Petit Verdot.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.
$80.

This is a young wine with considerable aging potential. Still, it seduces one - with its hints of dark chocolate and crushed blackberries that follows through to a full body and ultrafine tannins with a tangy, fresh finish

1 person found it helpfulSep 6th, 2015Second wine in flight three for the Bordeaux Master's Class at Heart's Delight with all wines from Margaux.
Deep mix of garnet and ruby red. Similar to the 2014 with some sweet spices and dark fruits but a bit softer with a savory twist. Notes of bret, meaty and a touch stinky overall. Nothing overpowering or out of place, well integrated together. Great structure and backbone with heavy tannins (7.5/10), definitely a wine built for the long haul. Notes of dark red berries, pepper and a touch toasted. Medium plus body with a long finish. Drink till 2040. (92+)

Apr 13th, 2017Wait for at least one hour. Before one hour, it was different wine. Color is different and changed from transparent wine red into deep purple. Aroma also changed a lot from
leather, green herb. Tannic. Spicy.
But one hour later thick and powerful balanced aroma, special, earthy mushroom, much powerful, less spicy and sweetness showed up. Oak, vanilla, black currant and berry a bit sweet. Elegant concentration. Gentle and well mixed with sweet and inky. 1.5 hours, fruity, almond. Still changing, Fascinated one. I love the one between 1 hour and 2 hours 2009 @1948, xuaduo - , 211207-211228

with a little bit of patience, it gives light berry taste with soft tannins.

Jan 2nd, 2018Still deep and fresh appearance, although the purple hue starts to fade. No sign of bricking at the 8 years of age. Very pretty nose. Gamey, seaweed, cassis, concentrated sensation, rich and opulent. On the palate this 2009 reflects the profile of the vintage. High tannin, medium plus plus acidity. Almost chewy and salty. Smoky, animalistic, black fruits, white pepper. I personally could do away with the milk chocolate flavor associated with the international style of winemaking. Really hope that time would quiet down the intense oak notes. Ripe and long. Would not touch this baby until 2024 at least. 90+
