Pencil lead and cherry notes, a bit past its prime at this point, but interesting.

Celebrating my 2300th review on @Delectable !

This is a great Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Bordeaux. Tasty right out of the bottle and better as it opens up.

Fruity with black fruits and cedar, leather, earth, peppercorn and mint.
Good quality, spicy and nicely balanced with a long finish.

Needs a few hours to open up properly, which I did not have. This is a great vintage, and will be better in the next 10 to 15 years.

A blend of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot.

14% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$60.

Simple, red cherries and plums. Medium finish...classic wet leaves, forest floor. Still needs time, but love the elegance of Saint Julien.

Totally shut down, but this should be a real winner with age. Give it another 5 years before checking in again. Very dense yet rough and toasty at the moment.

Built for food! A good ten years of cellar life before it...although I must admit I’m not too sure whether that will expose some hidden surprises. Perhaps a little less cherry wood attack would be the reward. That said, if you smeared a NZ leg of lamb done on the spit with a garlic/pesto paste you won’t be worrying about the sweet woody cherry.

What a gorgeous wine...and a perfect example of why I am a Left Bank devotee. While the 70/30 Cab-Merlot percentages are not a surprise, that refreshing mushroomy juiciness most certainly is; that’s a new one for me. Its short term future in my cellar? Not too sure I’ll keep my hands off to find out. ( Truly a First World problem.)

If I could pick only one wine, I would turn to the left bank Bordeaux. Here is an example of why: clean, dry, vibrant, intriguing, mineral, elegant yet very present and a phenomenal lingering finish. This beautiful wine from Saint Julien ha it’s typical softer well rounded tannins, dark red fruit of currant, red berry and perhaps dark pie cherry. Loved it and could stop sipping it.
