Château des Bachelards
Comtesse de Vazeilles Saint amour Gamay
Yes, these guys do Beaujolais in a Bordeaux bottle.
Great nose features ripe cherry and berries, along with a rich, humus-like earthy note and scents of old barrels. Fruity but fairly structured in the mouth. Significant tannin frames the sultry, oozy fruit. Initially, it’s a little austere in the finish (a la the region whose bottle shape is used), but more fruit comes through as it gets air. Unique and very good.

Unique and does not taste like traditional cru Beaujolais, heavier and more complex

Jan 15th, 2023Wow. I may second @Lyle Fass , saying these guys are great winemakers.
N. Old red drapes, velvet, cherries, bark, dirt and cherry pits, spice, cinnamon.
P.Incredible mouthfeel, deep w/o being heavy, 7 yrs. hasn’t hurt this. It’s not acidic bright, but nimble. The finish is long and plays in your cheeks. A beautiful red lolly that’s hiding something dark. Beautiful wine.
With chicken stew made from lamb shank leftovers, delish!
