Côtes du Rhône Syrah

Louis Barruol’s entry-level bottling is unique because it is 100% Syrah. Deep, dark-fruited and well-structured with attractive spice and floral top notes, the 2021 is a fantastic choice to pair with grilled or braised beef or lamb. $20.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, November 2022)

A Southern Rhone Syrah, Dark Ruby color with aromas of dark red fruits and floral spice. On the palate rich fruit flavors of berries, pepper spice, oak and earthy floral notes. The medium finish had ripe fine tannins ending with oak and dark berry fruit. Nice value.

Fruity, full-bodied, a bit of pepper. I’d drink it again.

Another outstanding vintage of this CdR classic. 100% Syrah. Deep ruby color. Bright aromas of blackberry, blueberry, kirsch and bacon fat. Fruit forward palate notes ripe plum and black currant with distinctive notes of vanilla, black pepper and grilled herbs. Touch of graphite and saline on the medium-plus luxurious finish. Creamy texture and smooth tannins. Outstanding quality and consistency for the price.

Easy wine to like. Maybe a bit one note but it’s a good note. This vintage (21) seems one to drink soon.

So smooth and juicy. Dark berries, a little lavender note.
