A few years ago I camped in the surroundings of Chateau Dauphine and brought some bottles home. This is their second wine. 90% merlot + 10% Cabernet Franc. Perfect table wine but nothing to shoot a rocket into space for.

Deep ruby, thin pink rim pretty noticeable wide tears. Quite spicy and generous ripe blackberry , dark cherry and plum notes , but also touch of grafite and brine . On the palate ripe dark fruit but nicely judged acidity , and fine quite noticeable tannins . Feels quite round and juicy , there is a touch of warmth from the alcohol , but there is enough balance and bite. Commendable length and ok balance on the finish , just missing a touch of refinement and refreshment. Drink now with food, will age ok over the next 5 years or so.

Medium deep ruby, pink rim. Spicy black fruit nose, cherry and plum, something slightly herbaceous also . On the palate , blackberry, black cherry , an iron/mineral quality also. Acidity is balanced , some quite fine tannins , so even though this can be drunk now another 12 months in bottle might not be a bad idea. It should last ok over the next 3-5 years I suspect, might improve in the short term . Length is ok also, not bad impression overall. Slightly chunky, not very elegant but as a reasonable drinking Bordeaux it’s a decent pick. Quite good fruit in the mid palate , fills out Nicely . Possibly slightly hot alcohol on the finish however.

Surprisingly warm and spicy for a merlot dominated wine. Soft with a medium structure and good fruit
