Château de Camensac
Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
Quite nice. See prior notes from a couple of months ago. (Sorry, big party.)

Dec 25th, 2024I haven’t been much of a fan of the ‘18 Bordeaux, as a general matter. I’ve found most of the ones I’ve had blocky and lacking elegance. This one is a nice surprise. The nose is fresh, showing pure, ripe cassis and dark berry fruit, along with a note of vanilla and some underbrush. On the palate, the fruit hits first and is deep and pure. Then some tacky but not overbearing tannins take hold, and some gravelly/minerally flavors come into play. Almost a Graves like cigar box thing, but more subtle. Pleasantly surprised that I’m enjoying this so much.

Sep 27th, 20241985 vintage. A very nice surprise and another testimony to the ageing potential of Bordeaux wines. At the time this estate was still owned by the Spanish Forner family (also Marques de Caceres Rioja). Solid colour. Tobacco and cedar wood dominate the nose, with a subtle hint of vanilla lurking in the background. Medium-bodied, with still good black fruit, fresh acidity and ripe tannin. Good cedary length too. No signs of fatigue at 37 years old. Well worth seeking out. Note that my bottle had a perfect level.

May 27th, 20222015 vintage. A bit more Cabernet Sauvignon (57%) than Merlot. Cedary nose with a hint of caramel that comes back in the taste. A bit rustic with a dry short finish. Not up to Cru Classé quality

Mar 8th, 2022Solid well made wine. Big tick for drinkability. Red fruits, balanced acidity. Good wine for the price

Oct 9th, 2018Decanted for an hour. Still quite tannic and youthful, but has a nice core or fruit. I have one more and won’t be in a hurry to drink it.
