Château Côte de Baleau
St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend
Vintage 2014 | surprisingly good this 2014 from 375ml bottle. Glorious raspberry impression, supported by cedar and spices like laurel and clove. Velvety taste. Paired with a remainder of lambs sheperd’s pie.

Jul 24th, 2023The 2020 Côte de Baleau is a beautiful, expressive wine that marries the natural intensity of the year with the sense of classicism that is such a signature. Medium in body, the Côte de Baleau has a bit more mid-palate depth this year, not a bad thing, to match its rather dark-ish personality. Hints of gravel, lavender, spice and dried flowers linger. This is an especially fine vintage. (Antonio Galloni, vinous, February 2023)

Jan 1st, 2022This estate was bought in 2013 by the Cuvelier family (Clos Fourtet and Poujeaux), but the previous owner Sophie Fourcade already made great efforts to improve the wines. This 2018 features a deep red colour, a flamboyant perfume with truffle, red fruit and flowers. Concentrated, with layers of red fruit and spices and a serious tannic structure. Good length too. As this estate (promoted to Grand Cru Classé in the 2012 classification) is still very much under the radar it is great value and worth seeking out for less than 25 euros.

Oct 3rd, 2021This is drinking really well right out the gate but does seem to deliver more pleasure with time in the glass. Classic St-Em.

Mar 8th, 2019Deliciously savory with a minty and ferrous quality, the 2012 Cote de Baleau comes across as refined and quite classy for its price point particularly. Leather through the finish and a dried petals element coming at the end. It was especially tasty with a home made stew for a cool winter’s evening.

Feb 24th, 2019Welcome to the weekend! This was a short week bit didn't feel any quicker. Today I picked up the 2010 Château Côte de Baleau Saint-Èmilion to continue my Bordeaux fixation. The blend for this Right Bank wine is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose is dark cherry, black plum, blackberry, fig, strawberry, herbs, tar, violet and crushed gravel.
On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, green bell pepper, graphite, menthol, licorice and earth.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium to + smooth tannins that leads to a long nice round finish. Have a great weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
