On this Thursday night I have opened the 2010 Château Chauvin 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose is beautiful black fruit , black cherry, black raspberry, black plum, black currant, herbaceous notes, mocha, vanilla, violets and graphite.
On the palate the rich black fruit pushes through with black cherry, black raspberry, plum, black currant, lots of green bell pepper, licorice, spice and crushed gravel.

Surprisingly good. Chateau Chauvin is near Cheval Blanc, and this is from the famed 1982 vintage. But still, this was a producer that had essentially lost its way until the 90s. Well, apparently the 1982 vintage transcends those issues. A fine mature Bordeaux tasting of leather and tobacco.

Drinking really well right now, this is in such a great spot!! Mostly mature notes combined with some remaining youthful fruit and energy. Definitely worth looking at if you are looking for a traditional Bordeaux with some age. Don't let the Cheval Blanc look-alike label fool you though!

Been dying to have this, have had it for a while. Lavender on the nose, then a smooth palate whose tannin came through only on the finish. Perfect age. Spicy yet soft at heart. Not one to drink young.
