Château Chasse-Spleen
Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
This was in perfect condition. Absolutely marvelous showing. Deep crimson color. Both red and black fruits on the nose with subtle graphite and tarry phenolics. This wine shows better than a lot of way more expensive 89 Bordeaux I’ve had recently. Shows what good provenance can do

Aug 2nd, 2023Wow! An excellent value Medoc estate that shows its age in all the best ways. Mature nose of old leather, pipe tobacco, and cedar. Lush red cherry and richness on the palate.

Nov 29th, 2022Perfectly aged with some life left. Deep red in color, soily’ aromatics with dark black cherry plum and tobacco on the nose. Silky smooth on the palate. Subtle and elegant. Totally Bordeaux and a real beauty. Cork looked like it was 5 years old instead of 33

Sep 15th, 2020As family were in town for the wedding we thought it would be fun to go to a favorite neighborhood restaurant. The 1989 Chasse Spleen is a wine that I've had a few times, each time punching above its weight so thought it would be fun to bring along. Classic and elegantly structured. Red fruit, leather and tar but maybe a slight green note that I hadn't noticed in previous bottles. A treat to share.

Jun 23rd, 2017I just love this wine. Somewhat of an opportunistic purchase that has paid dividends, albeit on a modest initial outlay. Supple and silky smooth in profile with cherries and spice. The finish lasted forever. This wine worked beautifully with a generous steak tartar at our local 24h French bistro (yay to decent corkage policies).

Mar 1st, 2017This is drinking very well. Not overly tannic like a lot of 89s but with pretty fruit, tarry pheonolics, graphite, dark cherry and some damp earth. No off flavors and still youthful. Very nice. Probably won't improve but should drink well for at least another few years
