Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

Ripe red currant, ***crushed minerality***, asphalt, clayey grippy tannins yet smooth towards the finish, fading acid.

Red cherry, red plum, blueberry pie, pomegranate, roasted red peppers, medicinal leaves, tobacco. Structure.

Stunning mature, classic nose. Plum, Raspberry cake. A lot of tobacco, silky. Stunning. So pure.

Very light in color and very thin

Great nose that promised a bit more than the palate could deliver.

Good, not great. Few years past it’s prime

Not giving as much as I expected - probably its youth. A touch of H2S. Cellar it. The blend is usually 70% Merlot; 25% Cabernet Franc; and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Situated on Pomerols prized central plateau. Soils being composed of a blend of clay and gravel.

Not as intense as the 2006 reflecting the lesser 2007 vintage. Still pretty good but just a detuned version of 06 and 08.

At the Pomerol Dinner in Melbourne last week we started with 3 vintages of Certan de May. The “May” coming from a Scottish Family ownership originally dating back to the 16th Century. Gifted the Estate by Royal decree. This wine is typically dusty and plummy. Medium weight with a touch of astringency. A generous earthy palate with raw mushroom notes. Soft grainy tannins. Excellent.
