It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Deep ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Red fruits on the nose with spices and dark chocolate notes.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, light oak, coffee, herbs, chocolates, licorice, spices, light earth, black pepper, tobacco leaf and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is very tasty Merlot from Saint Emilion. Complex and rich. Nicely balanced, fruit forward and elegant.

This 5 year old Merlot based blend is still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking nicely.

Interesting enough to drink as a sipping wine, or with food.

A blend of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (50% New) French Oak barrels for 16 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$60.

When I tasted the barrel sample, the 2020 Berliquet was not firing on all cylinders. Now in bottle, the nose is still a bit wanting, with light brambly red fruit and earthy scents, just missing some cohesion and the intensity of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a gentle grip and a round texture. A smear of dark chocolate appears towards the focused finish that requires more substance. Not bad, though greater wines will emanate from this address down the line. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023)

Deep ruby with medium intensity, developing aromas of black plus, cassis, blueberry, leather, vanilla, toast, blackberry, mint and chocolate. Dry, medium acidity, medium (+) tannins, high alcohol. Full bodied with medium flavors of black cherry, vanilla, red cherry and red plum. Long finish and very good quality. Drink now but has potential for further aging. A bit chunky but still appealing

A pleasant surprise, this modest Bordeaux made its presence known this evening. Cherry, almond, leather, Christmas spices abound. It's elegantly structured in a mid weight style, where the tannins are now silky smooth. There is both force and elegance here. Delicious.

Well, here it is the first weekend December and a finish to another year is upon us. I have opened the 2010 Château Berliquet to start the last month of the year off right. The blend to this Right Bank Bordeaux is 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose there is luscious black fruit, black cherry, sweet black plum, blackberry, black currant, herbal notes, clove and sweet silky chocolate.

The palate reveals the same luscious black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black currant, black plum, green bell pepper, clove and a soft minerality.

This wine is well balanced and well structured with medium to full bodied with fine medium + acidity, medium + smooth firm drying tannin and the finish is long with continued dark fruit to the end. Have a great weekend and a safe and to 2017. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Solid though the nose would make me think this wine was much older than 10 years.

Magnum. Merlot dominant. Gravelly texture. Impressive. New world style.
