Charles Krug
Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon
#AgedWineTuesday
A very pretty color of dark ruby with a brick rim.
Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium minus acidity.
Dry on the palate and fruit forward with nice complexity and mouthfeel.
Showing blackberries, cooked plums, figs, spices, coffee, cedar, light vanilla, milk chocolates, herbs, alcohol, vegetables, light earth and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.
This 11 year old is peaking now and showing nice balance. The nose is just gorgeous once it opens up.
Not from a good vintage, but it held up pretty well.
Delicious right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Tannins show up after 30 minutes in the decanter.
Thank you Elvira for sharing this with me.
Good by itself or with food.
13.9% alcohol by volume.
92 points.

Anyone who says California wines don’t Age has never tasted anything like this. It was incredibly fresh and youthful. The color was bright and clear the nose was floral and inviting. The fruit was still alive and only slightly muted. Tannins were velvety smooth.

Dec 28th, 2019Still alive, interesting to remember that back in 1961 Cabernet was still rare in Napa, it required dedication, this wine was made in the classic style to age, and it really did.
