Whenever we drink this, we remember a lovely picnic at the winery with @Joe Lucca and his wife Diana. Chappellet’s wines are as impressive as the winery. This is a more restrained, subtle Napa cab, tilting more towards a French Bdx, as opposed to the more common Napa exuberance. The nose of soft oak and coffee notes displays elegance. The palate is pure and clean. With no signs of aging, delicate notes of black cherries and truffles are packaged with polished tannins and neutral oak. Drinking this was like standing in an art gallery while admiring a lovely piece of art - a wonderful experience.

Fairly shy though simmering density, light on its feet. Very savory with meaty roast beef notes, grilled herbs, graphite, black licorice, blackberry, creme d'cassis. Full bodied and backwards, this is kind if exotic with still firm tannin and a powerful full throttle finish.

What the heck. Another 10-yr cab for comparison's sake. I bought a half case and remember this well. Fantastic initially, regressed then sprung back to life. At 10 years, it's still going strong though I'd say it's peaked. It's oozing blackberry fruit, complemented by currant, dark chocolate, herbs and spicebox. Lush and silky, though not as enticing or seductive as the Hall.

Jet black, fair amount of well-integrated oak, a high class cab. Plenty of time left if you have a bottle.

Smooth and rich. Lot of life left on this one. Blackberry, earth, balsamic.
