For the price, I expected a lot more. So did the rest on the table. Probably too young as it did improve with air, but I’ve had youthful (and cheaper) Champagne’s that performed far better than this. Started off with heaps of pears, bruised apples, and almonds on the nose. The palate was concentrated, juicy and almost too fruity for me (apples and apricot for days!). Air brought about more cut and chalkiness, as well as some floral notes. In short, I expected more depth. I suspect I’m just not a fan of the vintage. Time will tell.

I think there’s no question who made the Champagne’s of the vintage in 2011, and that’s Cedric Bouchard. La Haute Lemblé shows everything I love in Bouchard’s vinous style wafting a focused stone fruit expression with gun smoke, white flowers and wet stones. The palate is straight satin with a crystalline purity, ripping lemony acids and a long and vibrant finish. Can never get enough of these wines.

A particularly great vintage for La Haute Lemblé, a gentle decant reveals its expressive core of rich and ripe stone fruit, hazelnuts, pastry cream and a liquid rock minerality. The forwardness and power of the vintage puts everything on the table. The palate shows great tension, racy acids, a soft texture and an incredible crystalline purity. Such special and singular wines.

Thanksgiving, so decided to drink one of my better bottles of bubbly, this 2008 Cedric Bouchard “Le Haut-Lemblé” Blanc de Blancs. Like most of Bouchard’s work it is bottled at lower pressures which means very soft, fine bubbles on which ride flavors of kelp, seawater, roasted nuts and dried citrus rind. Gorgeously detailed and saline with mouthwatering clarity and depth. Delicious.

A statuesque, totally emotional Champagne. Needed a few hours of air to be at its best. Crystalline and utterly breathtaking. A knock out 💥😱🤪😍🤩🔥

A real pleasure to drink this with my parents. Still very tight and in need of at least another 2 years in bottle to be at its best. Compelling just the same...
