16’ Cayuse Viognier. Medium- bodied. Fresh pineapple-peach twist, citrus tangerines, white flowers, drop of honey. The light acidity runs through the entire palate.
Drink them soon.

Weekly Wednesday wine committee. This week we had 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 3 reds, 1 dessert. All tasted blind as normal.

I absolutely love Cayuse reds, but this felt a bit coy today. Not necessarily muted, but the flavors compared to the first two Viogniers put this in a tough spot. More lean, mineral and herbal driven. Not as much citrus/zest here than the others. That being said, it may age quite well. I called this Sancerre as I couldn’t make up my mind.

12' Cayuse Viognier. Pale yellow in color . Let it open up in your glass for 30 minutes. Hard candy on the nose & tangerine skins. Zesty fruits...oranges, tangerines and apricots. Secondary floral notes. On the very back of your palate, you get stone/acidity that will cut through a heavy seafood dish. From your nose, to the back of your palate, this Viognier is tough to beat! 2-3 years in it.

Pineapple & peach, little tart lime, even a slight bitter, smoky funk just a hint touch of honey on the finish

Flabby, unexciting. For a blasé American style I greatly prefer Alban’s. Curious to see what age brings, though to me this affirms the preeminence of Condrieu.

Did not know this wine existed. Not near as floral as a typical viogner. Great complexity. Very nice

Liked it, but was not blown away. Did I open this too early? A solid but not outstanding viognier from an outstanding producer.
