Cayuse Vineyards
Cailloux Vineyard Viognier
16’ Cayuse Viognier. Medium- bodied. Fresh pineapple-peach twist, citrus tangerines, white flowers, drop of honey. The light acidity runs through the entire palate.
Drink them soon.

Weekly Wednesday wine committee. This week we had 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 3 reds, 1 dessert. All tasted blind as normal.
I absolutely love Cayuse reds, but this felt a bit coy today. Not necessarily muted, but the flavors compared to the first two Viogniers put this in a tough spot. More lean, mineral and herbal driven. Not as much citrus/zest here than the others. That being said, it may age quite well. I called this Sancerre as I couldn’t make up my mind.

12' Cayuse Viognier. Pale yellow in color . Let it open up in your glass for 30 minutes. Hard candy on the nose & tangerine skins. Zesty fruits...oranges, tangerines and apricots. Secondary floral notes. On the very back of your palate, you get stone/acidity that will cut through a heavy seafood dish. From your nose, to the back of your palate, this Viognier is tough to beat! 2-3 years in it.

Apr 29th, 2017Flabby, unexciting. For a blasé American style I greatly prefer Alban’s. Curious to see what age brings, though to me this affirms the preeminence of Condrieu.

Dec 10th, 2022Did not know this wine existed. Not near as floral as a typical viogner. Great complexity. Very nice
