Served double-blind. The color was a darker tone of gold, showing potential signs of age but seemed to be in good physical shape. On the nose, dried fruits such apricot and citrus fruits however, it was the striking note of coconut that ultimately led me to the Iberian peninsula. I figured a Rioja made in an oxidative style such as LdH Tondonia Blanco. On the palate, again with the dried fruits accompanied by nuts. This wine was balanced and had fine acid that provided the lift necessary. When the wine was revealed, I was couldn’t help but crack a smile; what a delight to try such a fantastic dry white from Portugal that, in many ways, was very energetic at 29 years young.

Absolutely fascinating. Sweet smoke and oxidative aromas dominate the nose - butterscotch and chestnuts. On the palate the acidity rushes through with ferocity. Lemon peel and brine find a more caramel like finish. Beautiful and bizarre - and as always a pleasure to enjoy a birth vintage wine :) #sommcon

Had no idea what to expect going into this. Delicate and oxidized. Bright acidity and intense minerality with lemon peel and a long, almost nutty finish, like Fino Sherry. Cork was slightly soaked through. One of a kind but not for everyone.

Needs time to open up but evidence of Arinto’s aging potential. Displaying classic notes of oxidized apples, citrus juice and preserved citrus peel. Saline on the finish.

It was a sherry, but not a sherry. It was sherry lite. It wasn’t sherry. Even though my mind says it was very close. I’d be curious to taste vintages with less than 5 years age.

I was very excited to try this #Arinto having tried the ‘95 on a few occasions. I must say I prefer the ‘95, though the ‘91 is still interesting.

Beautiful bouquet and golden honey color. Uninteresting on the finish. Not fruit forward, but acid seems balanced. Next, I want to try the 1993, my birth year vintage!
