A ripe, full, balanced Chianti. Color is fairly saturated. Nose shows dark black cherry, intense and rich minerality, lots of pencil lead (no, we’re not in Pauillac, Toto). In the mouth, it’s on the more sedate, less acidic side, with almost rich flavors of cherry and liquid stones. Finish is very long, with lowish acids for a Tuscan Sangiovese, and quite a bit of tannin, though it is well obscured and integrated. Not a pizza wine, though that’s what I opened it with. Like a Brunello, this would shine with a grilled steak.

Bright ruby garnet. Bosomy nose of tart black cherry and patent leather. This is echoed on the palate with firm medium plus tannins and bright medium plus acidity… perfect for food. Cherry tar finish. Such a solid example and it's not even a Riserva.

So bretty. Really the dominant element, to its detriment.

Delicious. Really enjoying these random old Chiantis. Gives me great confidence in the more recent vintages I'm cellaring.
