The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale is a dense, powerful wine. Next to the straight Riserva, the Poggiale has more mid-palate depth and overall richness, but it is not more complex or nuanced, just a bigger wine. Red cherry jam, leather, smoke, sweet oak and licorice meld into the unctuous finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2019)

Sweet red berries, strawberry, raspberry, candy, cinnamon, orange peel and dried herbs. M- acid and tannin. M body. Fruit forward. M finish.

Tastes "classic" but with 22 months French Oak. I'd say Modern-Classic. No vegetal leafiness. Round but not extracted. Well made and surprisingly refreshing for the 14.5abv. 2012

Same purity and finesse as the Chianti Classico with more earth, spice, and leathery tobacco tones. Love that they can convey such weight out of the Sangioveto without covering the wine with new oak makeup. Superb.

Strong red fruit character meets a acidity & firm tannins. Absolutely okay to open a bottle if you have some more in the cellar. If not, be patient.

Traditionally styled and a great QPR if your into pleasantly stinky juice!

Sexy wine, from start to finish.
Balance of acid, fruit, and hints of baking spices dotted. Truest Chianti Classico reserve I've ever tasted.

Great again...best of the Tuscan Chiantis. Previously rated, 2015 vintage. Accolades deserved...smooth but full, big flavor, perfect balance, perfect light tannins, palate of big berry, lingering finish hints that is reportedly aged in French Oak for over 18 mos...but a bit expensive.
