Papera Ranch Zinfandel
The 2019 Zinfandel Papera Ranch shows a slightly more reserved side of the Russian River. Readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a year or two as the acids and tannins are pretty tightly wound. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint and licorice show a darker side of Zinfandel that is so beguiling. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2018 Zinfandel Papera Ranch captures all the exuberance of Russian River Valley. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, new leather and cedar build in a sumptuous, creamy Zinfandel that is showing so well today. Bright red toned fruit and sweet floral notes saturate the finish effortlessly. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with minimal cellaring. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021)

I’ve enjoyed a decent amount of Calisle zins and really enjoy their take (not overly jammy, balanced spice), but this was my first experience with this offering and it was very unique. The aromatics here don’t smell like Zin...more Syrah like. Funky nose. Blood orange and spicy rhubarb with red fruits and cardamom. On the palate it is crunchy and energetic, oozing black cherries and zesty citrus. Very intriguing. Thanks @Dan Fitzgerald .

Oct 14th, 2019Over the hill which is surprising as I have 09 and 10 from Carlisle that are still drinking well. Seems to be a problem with the 2012 as they have not aged as well as other vintages for this winery.

Feb 5th, 2018Best #Zinfandel producer out there (period), 7 years old and it's balanced, deep, fresh and most importantly fun to smell and taste! Dare I say this could age to 20 years? I'd take that gamble just to see what it's like, but side more with the fact it would be in fine drinking condition.
Here we have a splash of Carignane that adds depth, beep but not flamboyant fruit and spine to the structure. Blue and dark red fruits brood over a layer of roasted meat and subtle, ripe tannins and tweek of acidity on the finish. #carlisle
