One of my go to Rosé Champagnes at ~$35/bottle, it's a great value play.

My prior notes still apply.

Visited this producer in May 2018, likely had the most stairs to get down into their cellar than anyone else, very deep underground!

A very nice nice N/V Rosé Champagne for $35. Soft and delicate texture. Beautiful powdery chalkiness. Delicate volcanic minerals that penetrate. Raspberries, strawberries, black cherries, baguette crust, pink rose petals, good acidity and nicely balanced rich finish.

On the nose, almost gummy style fruits. Strawberries, cherries, hint of very ripe cooked rhubarb, tangerine, some white citrus, sea spray, nice soft chalkiness & red & pink roses.

The palate reveals; some sweet & sour cherries & strawberry notes, very ripe rhubarb, tangerine, blood orange, passion fruit, lean watermelon, saline, nice grainy grey volcanic minerals that leave a long deep presence on your palate that could be mistaken for spice on the long set, sea shells, beautiful chalkiness, red florals and pink roses, nice round acidity and a long rich, polished finished.

Photos of, the exterior of Canard-Duchene, inside dining area, cellar with bottles on A-frames to be hand riddled and one of Canard-Duchene’s Vineyards.

Nose of; strawberries, cherries, orange citrus, watermelon, light, soft chalkiness/minerals, and pink rose petals. The body is medium, rich and delicate. The fruits are lean and slightly tart; strawberries, cherries, orange, blood orange, tangerine, white citrus spray, watermelon, Georgia peach, raspberries, baking soda, light chalkiness/minerals & saline, baguette crust and pink rose petals. Very good acidity and rich finish. Nice QPR at $34.99. Thanks, it’ll get added to the rotation. @Severn Goodwin

45% Pinot Noir / 30% Chardonnay / 25% Pinot Meunier

On the nose, strawberry shortcake, raspberry and citrus peels.

On the palate, red raspberry/currant and minerals. Dry.

At $40 I have not seen a better brut rosé bottle at this price point. This is the stuff I want to flow out of my faucet when I turn the handle! We can never have enough of this Champagne! Seek and you will be rewarded.

Producer Note:
Canard-Duchêne is unique in its origins, history and style. The Champagne house has been located in Ludes, in the Montagne de Reims National Park, since 1868, and is one of the original Grandes Marques. Its founders, Victor Canard and Leonie Duchêne, both well-known characters in Champagne, were granted the right by the Russian Imperial Family to adopt its coat of arms as the family emblem. The crowned two-headed eagle has thus appeared on every Canard-Duchêne label since the end of the 19th century. These authentic, original Champagnes combine fruit, intensity and complexity.

We have opened the Nv Canard-Duchene Authentic Brut Rose. A blend of 45% Pinot Noir 30% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Meunier.

To the eye this has a beautiful pink hue. Once the cork was removed there was a rush of fresh strawberries, cherry, citrus aromas, a creaminess and some graphite notes.

On the palate the strawberries are still up front saying hello in a big way and some red currant.

This is dry in the mouth with high acidity, medium body, medium long crisp clean finish with nice minerality.

For the price this is a very nice Champagne. Enjoy it anytime and as an aperitif.

Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷

Pale onion akin color with with plenty of active tiny bubbles with brioche strawberry, and red currant aromas. On the palate it medium-bodied and dry with a creamy mousse and strawberry, red currant flavors. Solid value for a Rosé Champagne at $35
