Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Nerello Cappuccio

When these bottles are good, they're great. This was one of those - crunchy red fruit and hot basalt and leather and that Etna je ne sais quoi. With sugo on tajarin, lovely.

Nice earthy potpourri, dry, gritty, leather, wet cigar, cinnamon, dried cranberry.

Tasted by the glass - unfortunately a bit oxidised IMO

A little hot, but potpourri spice, floral and pretty. A hint of VA.

2001 and aging just fine. Certainly all there with earth, leather, dried flowers with the mineral verve I enjoy. Quite enjoyable. Just a step short of joining my top tier.

I struggle with a lot of etna rosso these days. Want them to be more than they are. This one delivers and then some. The fruit is fresh and defined. Flowers, herbs and minerals are defined. There is precision. This is an excellent example and a relative value at that. Highly recommend for that reason and more. 2004 vintage

2001 Vintage. Fascinating wine, 12 years in neutral barrels before bottling yet still retaining some fruit and freshness. Cranberry, dried raspberry, tar, tobacco, white mushroom, rawhide. Elements of southern Italy, of Rhone, of Burgundy, of Piedmont all in one glass. Evolved in complexity and actually attained more balance the longer it was open.
