This Chianti Classico doesn’t say it’s from a particular commune. Just a straight Chianti Classico. The modest nose features dark cherry, warm moist gravel, savory dark minerality. A fairly low-toned palate displays some dark cherry, but it’s mostly earthy (stony gravel) and savory flavors that prevail. Vibrant acids and some youthful but soft tannin seem to indicate that this will get better in a year or two, but it’s nice with dinner, if a bit vigorous, right now. Neither the cork nor the bottle say the winery that provided the wine for this Garagiste private label, but if you look up the winery number on the back and Google it, you come up with an Italian government document that says Casa Emma (a very good estate).

Like the 2015 version before it, the 2016 iteration of this private label is from Casa Emma, as the cork discloses. It’s a superb CC. Concentrated wild cherry fruit, spice, gravel. Palate has got superb clarity, nice combo of fruit and savory notes. Great balancing acids. Light on its feet. Barely any tannin. Pleasure.

Sharpish and a bit thin day one, all acid with not a lot of fruit. With air and on day two opening up to show some fennel seed, green herbs and a slightly rounder, sour/pie cherry note.

This is the private label used by Garagiste for stuff from Italy. But the cork gives away the secret. 2015 is a low acid year but this one keeps its balance. Ripe macerated cherry fruit augmented by warm gravelly earth. Classic. Medium bodied and very pure tasting. Nice intensity but so balanced. Fruit, acid, tannin.

Ripe with firming acid in the finish. Generous style.

Ripe fruit, smokey aromas, and charred thyme/oregano. A delicious wine, but lacks the balsamic backbone and tomato paste nuances I find in Chianti.

Pretty nice wine. Fresh and with nice structure. Blossoms with some air. Not super concentrated which made it nice with pasta.

Pnp. Rustic, very old world style wine. Cherry, smoke, leather, and tobacco on the palate. Tannins are still showing and needs more time or a decant
