Danube River Plain Gamza
Dark ruby purple. Nose and medium-bodied palate of red plum, sweet cranberry, and rose. Medium minus tannins are most assertive on the back palate and finish which adds a slight earthiness. A nice alternative to Grenache or Pinot Noir when a lighter red is desired. Drink now.

Jan 3rd, 2021Juicy and muscular, dark fruited, good length, with pleasant rusticity. Very decent bargain wine. Would like to try a lighter extracted style of this grape.

Feb 19th, 2018Plum, prune and a smoky raspberry rimmed by black cherry-pit-juice-sweetness lace the aromatic facade. There is an additional grape-y tone that resonates like Touriga. Abruptly dry and oaky entry suggesting dusty sunflower husks, green cedar, dried bing cherry, dried cassis, black pepper, and burnt cinnamon. #Bulgarianwine #bulgaria #Gamza #DanubePlain #Bulgariana

1 person found it helpfulJan 11th, 2019This native Bulgarian variety is dark garnet purple in the glass. Nose yields violets, blueberries, and cola. The rustic medium bodied palate echoes adding red apple with fuzzy tannins (medium plus) and medium acidity surrounding it all. Medium long finish bumps up the QPR. A tasty fruity yet rustic red that will support a variety of dinner fare. Try it where you’d serve Pinot Noir or Gamay. Pork is a particular friend.

Flavors are spice cake, cherry compote, blackberry cobbler, and Dutch licorices. Something woodsy and pine-y in there too. This has great balance and has not oxidized in the 7 years it’s been in the bottle. Fruit is here; fresh, wild fruits. If this is any indication I’d love to try more reds from Bulgaria.

Mar 2nd, 2023Decent [rustic] table wine @ $10 giving A+ QPR... fleshy dark inky jammy w/dark fruits, bit flabby w/med tannins, as it unwinds gives some floral & whiff of spice. Dusty & dry on finish.

Mar 23rd, 2020Where has this wine been all my life? Love the chocolate nose and strong tannins and jam. Has a little hint of wet farm and bacon. As it opened it became even more dry and chalky. But still super delicious. Admittedly, I downed the whole bottle in one night...thanks @Byron C Mayes
