After 30 minutes got pretty decent. For a very good vintage and I really like Buccella but this was mostly disappointing.

Ripe. Powerful. Dark. Intense. Rich vanilla and velvet finish. Very extracted, concentrated juice.

I believe this was the last vintage of the "high Octane style" before Celia Welch took over winemaking in 2010.

I expected a train wreck but was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed this.
No medal for subtlety here but there's a time/place for any wine.

Massive, serious wine, tightly wound and brimming with complexity.

To ring in my 1,000th Delectable wine review I wanted to open up something particular posh and opulent. Needless to say, this 2009 Buccella is about as perfect as I expected. Sexy fine grain tannins, plush red/black fruits, baking spices, Christmas spice cake, traces of menthol, licorice, creme de cassis, all laced in suave new oak. This is an awesome wine.

My my this is aging well. A couple of years ago I opened an ‘09 and was disappointed this first night it was open but it came into its own the next day. After another couple of years of bottle age, this vintage is coming into its own. Very balanced and nuanced. While its still a big cab, I would say it has some feminine characteristics (not a bad thing). I think this will continue to develop with more age. Looking forward to opening another in 18-24 months.
