Bruno Giacosa
Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo
A wonderful lush nose. Burgundy like with floral notes, soft red cherry, leather. Savory and lifted and delicious. Great

Oct 9th, 2024I brought this. Dark reddish tawny. Another obvious Italian nose. Notes of roses, anise, some tar and some tea. Young in the mouth. Big mouth feel, even tannic despite 4-5 hours of air. People were down on this wine but then it opened up in the last hour of the long evening to display everything you want in a Barolo. This needs another 5-10 years of age, and at least 8-10 hours of air before consumption at the current moment. 95+

Nov 18th, 2022Taken to Via Carota in the West Village. Decanted for 8 hours in the hotel room. Deep tawny color. Opaque. Amazing nose that screams old Nebbiolo. Notes of sweet red and black cherries, red rose petals, anise, old wooden desk, black soil and a hint of tar. Super rich in the mouth. Coats the palate. One of the best Barolos I’ve ever had. At peak yet still youthful. This can easily go for another 20 years. Bravo.

Nov 12th, 2022Beautiful poise and intensity. A little drying on the finish.

Oct 18th, 2020Tasted blind alongside another bagged bottle. This is reddish amber but more dense and less translucent to the Barbaresco sibling next to it. Notes of cherries, tea, rose petals, some tar, some black earth. This is more masculine and heavy than the Barbaresco. I guessed this as 90 Giacosa Barolo Riserva before both Giacosa bottles were revealed. This comes across as young, and well stored bottles like this one easily have a decade or two in front of it left. Unlike the 90 Barbaresco, which I think is at peak, this 90 Barolo can improve with more age. Great side-by-side compare. Great juice.

Jul 8th, 20191996 out of magnum. It was really pissed off that we opened it, but over five hours became a touch softer. Outstanding life ahead of it!
