Studio di Bianco Collio Sauvignon Blend
The 2015 Collio “Studio di Bianco” is an interesting blend of Sauvignon, Riesling and Tocai. The combination is stunning. The wine pours a light straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose…whoa…super aromatic. The wine is developing with bright stone fruit, namely peaches, at first…and then with air, the tropical fruits and lemons emerge with chalky minerals. One the palate, the wine is dry with medium++ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The texture is incredible. The finish is super long and grippy. So chalky, and waxy! Energetic. Brilliant. Drink now and through 2035.

Feb 7th, 2024The 2019 Studio di Bianco opens slowly in the glass, remarkably pretty and refined, with dusty yellow flowers that give way to hints of flint and freshly sliced nectarine. Further coaxing brings forward hints of dried peaches and incense. It’s silky and polished in feel, yet youthfully inward, with mineral-tinged orchard fruits and inner florals that somehow have a dusty character. This tapers off structured yet long with a sweet melon note that lingers on and on. The 2019 is completely harmonious with a stunning blend of sapid fruit and brilliant acidity. It should mature beautifully in collectors’ cellars. This was tasted both from a freshly opened bottle and one that was opened 24 hours prior, which only helped the wine to blossom further. The Studio di Bianco is a blend of 40% Friulano, 35% Sauvignon and 35% Riesling, depending on the vintage. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

The blend of Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling yields a wine of power and structure. The flesh of the wine, makes this bold enough to hold up to rich meats. The minerality of the wine is beautiful, and the aromatics are complex: floral, savory, perfumed, and fruit filled. The notes of orange blossom, and white peaches waft from the glass with a stony minerality with a perfume of orchids and salt water. The palate is full and round, with no feeling of oak or being too decadent. The bottle age rounded out the sharp edges this wine can present in its youth. Here the texture and acidity have that fantastic marriage between the two that complements the myriad of aromatics and flavors that is packed in this wine.

Jan 6th, 2015Very nice Malvasia from Collio. Subdued aromatics are bolstered by a very refined mouthfeel. Great wine, just wanted a little more on the nose.
