Bodegas Olarra
Cerro Añon Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend
Lovely wine in a great place. Superb balance. Soft, not over complicated. Roasted cherries and pomegranate. Chocolate. Fine tannin. Excellent QPR.

Aug 13th, 2019Aha! No marks for guessing this wine’s origins - classic Rioja with a strong American oak influence throughout, just about kept in check by slightly dried cherry fruit and some worn leather, but then that vanilla again toward the finish. A decent enough example with plenty of life still ahead.

Sep 5th, 2021Gorgeous Stunning aromatics on this: soaring & decadent kirsch liqueur, blueberry pie, spice cake, cedar, vanilla, pipe tobacco, coconut and so much more. Deep dark dense and oh so plush, velvety soft caressing tannins and lubricating acidity. Only very slight bricking, this has many more years ahead: straddling the line between traditional & new international style Rioja - .2 bump for $20 price tag. Buy a case of this stuff

Aug 8th, 2020Wasn't sure what to expect when I found this for $16 but this is very enjoyable and interesting. After initial opening, this has massive tannins. After a 60 min decant, the tannins calmed some but are still prominent. Black fruit, smoke, and cedar flavors. This is a hold and wait another 5 years or so to drink.

Jul 30th, 2020I was looking for big red to chew on, and I got one - but with a dash of elegance & some complexity.
Surprisingly fruity with ripe dark cherry & mulberry. Plus leather, tobacco leaf and some (nice!) oaky notes. On the palate nicely structured with chewy but juicy tannins, fruity acidity and great balance. Plus the velvety structure you expect from a Rioja. Finishes off with a cool whiff of spice & menthol. This is a modern interpretation but still very nice and it worked really well with a flank steak.

Velvety smooth. Thanks morasfinewines! Can’t hashtag it because app crashes but hey, gotta give credit where credit is due.
