Reserva Rioja Tempranillo

In 1874, Bodegas Montecillo was founded by Celestino Navajas in La Rioja Alta. A classic Rioja, deep red with dark berry fruit and spicy aromas. On the palate blackberry and plum flavors with vanilla and herb spice character. Tannins are a bit grippy but should soften with time, medium+ ending with a fruit structure. Nice value. Sour start, low tannin

There's a definite aroma of oak and leather upon first opening. Medium bodied with the taste of dark cherries and plums. It does not have a long finish but it is smooth.

High in acidity and low tannin. Not a balanced or complex wine. Might be good paired with a meal but not a great stand alone wine

This was an excellent bottle. A medium bodied, round and smooth flavour. I purchased it on sale for $13.95 ($4.00 off!).

More enjoyable than the Crianza. The extra time in the barrel softens the acidity and makes for a pleasant wine with pasta
