So this was one of those moments, where I have an opportunity to taste a wine that affects my perspective as a winemaker. It was such an honor to savor a 22 year old Rioja Tempranillo. My first thoughts were "Breathe it in. I'm in love..." 100% Tempranillo, aged for 4.5 yrs in all French Oak, bottled in May of 1999. Subtle oak, tea. Menthol on the finish. Smooth with such finesse. A little soy sauce. When those in Rioja say that they make Tempranillo that will live long, they aren't kidding! Propobly a bad bottle or stored badly. After 40 years this wine had very little taste or smell left. It was ok, not very fruit nor any share tanniner. Not bad just a bit fainted
