Bodegas Juan Gil
Aniversario 100 Jumilla Monastrell Blend
Juan Gil Jiménez first built his winery in 1916 in Jumilla, and passed it down to his future generations. From 100% Monastrell (or Mourvèdre in France) aromas of dark berry fruits and woody spice. On the palate blackberry and plum with earthy wood flavors and notes of cacao and cinnamon spice. Soft tannins, lingering ending with a light toasty character. Great value! Very nice!

Aug 22nd, 2018Not sure what it means, but my father has worked for nearly 40 years in and around oil refineries. His first comment was "I don't like it. It tastes like it was made in a chemical plant." I like the wine, but there is some truth in what he said. I added "and one next door to a lumberyard." I didn't take my father for a natural wine fan, but what else is Thanksgiving for, if not for that?

Nov 24th, 2016Deep ruby in color with a purple rim.
Beautiful, fierce nose of toasted Oak, vanilla, licorice, Blackberries, figs, raisins, spices, cherry pie, earth, leather, cloves, coffee, bonfire smoke, bacon and black pepper.
Full bodied, bold, elegant, smooth and powerful with medium acidity and long legs.
Fruity on the palate and dry, with blackberries, blueberries, figs, sweet cherries, licorice, wood, tobacco, leather, earth, pencil shaving, light cloves, red pepper, spices and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.
A great red from Jumilla, Spain. Enjoyable to Sip on by itself or with grilled meats and BBQ.
Spicy, interesting, complex and big, (did I mention spicy?) and a Great mouthfeel too.
Needs an hour to open up, in order to showcase all it's got, but good pretty much out of the bottle.
Thank you Anthony for sharing this wine with me. I really liked.
15.5% alcohol by volume.

Lots of movie theater popcorn butter, but evolves with some serious dark fruit.
