Bodegas Godelia
Bierzo Mencia
Lovely Spanish wine from Mencia, dark red color, ripe nose full of prunes, sweet spices, vanilla and a hint of smoked oak, medium body with dry tannins, the oak is a bit overpowering the body and the finish is very dry and tannic. My score 86, drink to 2022, I think WS awarded 92 points, so it is up to you to decide ...

Smooth tannins and well balanced acidity. This wine has held up well. Thank You Ron B. Revisited in July 2023. Maintaining its freshness and vibrancy.

Jan 14th, 2022Loads of Brett, menthol and violets on the nose. Really funky. As it opens, black fruit flavors with hints of coffee, leather and earth come forward. Smooth and long finish. Interesting. Thanks Ron B!

Oct 25th, 2019One redeeming quality is the dilly brightness I usually put w tempranillo from rioja, but my guess is that is just due to American oak...which is a touch heavy than I like, and kind of reminds me of beldi olives with a touch of construction site. Somewhat over extracted. Tannins more from wood than anything else. Tasty enough, just not 'good'
