Bodegas Atalaya
Laya Almansa Red Blend
Blend of 70% Garnacha Tintorera & 30% Monastrell, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits, spice and cedar notes, aged for 4 months in French oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with herbs, espresso and licorice. Fine drying tannins, medium+ finish ending with dried fruits, herbs and oak. Nice value, drink now, no real aging benefit!

Oct 24th, 2022Loads of dark fruit, pepper and initially, pretty hot but that seemed to dissipate over time (either that or my palate got used to it). That being said, this was pretty decent for $10.

May 3rd, 2019It’s young. Shows promise, spicy with Ceasar salad, fruit forward with a mesquite smoked steak. Needs more time in the bottle.

1 person found it helpfulDec 4th, 2016Tasted 2x over the past 8 days, once @ a shop's tasting, the other from our own bottle, that one getting progressively better over 3 days (Private Preserve only applied after Day 1)! I QUITE agree with others here that there's a decided "bite"/"strength" [in a negative sense]/astringency when first opened, though even that begins mitigating with air in the glass. However, once THAT is overcome this becomes [IMHO] a **steal** @ $6.95, which my score takes into account.

Coffee, smoke, meaty aromas. The finish is a bit rough.
