Dense, inky, highly extracted purple red. Leather, cherry fruit leather, barnyard and a hint of butter and menthol in nose. Plum, cherry and orange- orange peel flavors initially with sediment and chewy tannins. Later, green and black olive and meaty flavors, barrel smoke and saltiness emerge. High astringency. Needs time to open, but fruit flavors fade faster than tannins mellow. Not sure on this one - bad bottle or past peak? 24 hours later, more plum, olive and meaty flavor but lots of sediment and mild tannins. Better tasting a day later, but decanting and maybe filtration seem warranted

What it offers in taste is quite the opposite--fresh, perky and alive with strawberry and red fruit. Rounded tannins and a lingering finish. This would go well with tomato-based foods.
