Bodega Comando
La Bruja de Rozas Sierra de Gredos Grenache

One of my bottles from my annual WWC hosting. Part of a Grenache flight (including ‘19 Rotie Cellars “Big G”, ‘19 Saint-Damien Souteyrades Gigondas, ‘18 Andremily Grenache).
Last of a three-pack.
I’m a little surprised at the average score here, but wonder if it has to do with the aromatics presenting a little cru-Beaujolais like (borderline partial carbonic fermentation type aromatics). Bright, juicy, crunchy Grenache. Light ruby colored in the glass with potpurri, candied raspberries, faint spiced rhubarb on the nose. Crisp, juicy red and black berry fruit with a savory/mineral iron type note toward the finish. It’s light, tangy, crunchy and expressive. I’m sure these age wonderfully but it’s tasty right now. Great pairing with grilled quail!

So much going on here
Violets and sweet funk in that nostril,
A wild ride of herbs, flowers, fruits - saline and cedar.

Transparent ruby magenta. Piquant notes of tamarind and exotic red fruits, with hints of white pepper and hot macadam. Red florals and red candy, then a juicy bit of saltwater taffy on the palate. Such a salty, juicy and delicious finish, with an herbal twist. Really stylistically unique and delicious. Tip top value.

Transparent red umber. Nose is muted. Fruit is salty and savory, but not in a pleasant way. There’s sweetness on the palate but it’s marred by a crackery quality that seems to be an off-malolactic expression.

Opens meaty and smoky, but with Garnacha ripe red fruit character quickly emerging. Rustic and a bit coarse in a way that might improve with age, but already has an intriguing ethereal quality lurking.

Stinky but blows off, leaving only a bit of a rubbery aftertaste. Funky and herbal with real complexity, transparent and full of flavor. Just a little bitter on the finish.

Extraordinary fruitiness upfront, but the finish is like drinking battery acid. If you are looking for a super fruity wine, this is it, but the finish mars the wine. No elegance or subtlety here, but this wine would have been good if the acidity and high alcohol were reduced.

Preposterously good for its price point. Has a wonderful blackberry-tinged, brambly, feral Spanish garrigue thing going on on the nose. Burgundian approach to Grenache with minimal extraction and lively acids. Sweet, smokey, tart, salty and bright on the palate. An almost floral herbal aspect. Fantastic.
