I’m old enough to remember when Bordeaux wasn’t a Parkerized delivery system for skullbusting levels of alcohol. This reminds me of a charming, “luncheon claret”-type Right Bank thing that used to be the mainstay of good stores and restaurant wine lists: cranberry, raspberry, a touch of Cab Franc sap and herbs. The world needs more truly medium-bodied reds like this.

Very small production NY Lake District red blend of 80% cab franc & 20% merlot. Nothing broad here. Fine wild blackberries & eucalyptus, untamed & unruly. Truly intriguing & delicious—& at 20$, a steal. 2nd bottle.

No words. Natty crunk meets ‘60s right bank Bordeaux. Luncheon claret...as you might have been served by Warhol or Timothy Leary. The Merlot seems a bit riper and more assertive in this vintage, but the CF wrapper leaf and cranberry pop comes in on the surprisingly suave and sneaky-tannic finish. There are no better wines being made in America if you love things that have one foot firmly rooted in the classics and the other with the itch for the new. Superlative and timeless.

Really interesting. Low alcohol-12.5%-quite tannic so has some legs to age, or benefits from a robust decant ( which we didn’t do). On nose plenty of wild raspberry, palate is somewhere between an old school Bordeaux & Saumur red( blend is 70% cab franc & 30% merlot), along with serious tannic structure. Serious natural winemakers too.
