Seemed an appropriate bottle for our anniversary... and a very tasty one too. Medium bodied and delicious, this wine disappeared rather quickly.

Sipping Fine Wine

Blend of 63% Cab Sauv & 28% Merlot with rest Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits, herbs and licorice. On the palate black cherry, raspberry and blackberry flavors with espresso, mocha and earthy notes. Well balanced, medium acidity, fine ripe tannins long finish ending with fruit, cedar and toasty spice! Nice!

Really good. Maybe unfair to rate right on opening.

Quite good for 2011. Decanted 5 hrs and checked along the way. Really mellowed out and improved over that time. Very nice QPR

This wine is coming along nicely now. Big and bold, with a lengthy finish. Can't wait to try it in again in 5 years.

I know that PofH seems to be a darling with wine critics and has the reputation of a great 2nd label/QPR from Napa at around $70.

I may be swimming against the stream here but having recently opened 2009/10/11/12 I must admit to being a tiny bit underwhelmed.
I even have difficulties recognizing varietal characters aligned with Napa.

Perhaps I shall just pop them on the earlier side...??

15% alc.

Martha McClellan's last vintage there so this was blended/bottled under Denis Malbec.

Big, voluptuous and high-octane true to Martha's style, I have the feeling Denis was trying his best to pull it in a more elegant direction.

;-)
(Please keep trash-talking the 2011-vintage from Napa and I'll cross my fingers that I win the Lotto so I can stock up).
GREAT wine!

At 15% alc. this come across a bit "chunky" and with slightly austere tannins.
A very nice wine but recent vintages (2010-12) are in a different league!

2nd day: Had a chance to re-visit and this has now mellowed down and is performing (much) better. I'm therefore adding a couple of points to my initial rating ;-).
This should be prime-drinking the next 5-15 years.
