10 Years Old Madeira Malmsey
I love Madeira. I don’t know if it loves me but it is at least on friendly terms with my taste buds. My taste buds like dessert. Even if you think you don’t like sweet wine the acidity on this may turn your head. It is a nuts cutting down molasses mountains carpeted in trees loosing glazed nuts. Malmsey. Definitely my friend.

Jan 31st, 2021Carmelized pecan, orange marmalade, rancio, and a touch of green. Intense sweetness balanced nicely with incredible lift on the finish. First rate.

Aug 18th, 2015Fortified white grapes (19%) from the island of Madeira off the Iberian / African coast. Described as 10 year-old or with age character from blending a vintage range; older and younger to epitomise 10 years in an old barrel (oxidative aging); dry, nutty, spiced and mouth taking with a collective slice of 70% dark chocolate.

Dec 2nd, 2013Not as grapey as Port but shares many of its characteristics—rich, perfumed, fruity, nutty, toasty and sweet (but not crossing the line into unctuous, I’m pleased to report). I’ve had this bottle opened for over a year and it’s indestructible. Enjoyed with a cheese plate featuring Stilton, Gruyere, figs, dates and dried cranberries. I feel like I’m in a Dickens tale. “God bless us, every one!”
