Plush and soft with brambly black raspberry and a deep earthy streak. Velvety Volnay and 2011 "bad vintage" be damned, this is drinking beautifully right now.

Black cherry, raspberry, brilliant, and concentrated. Much potential and life ahead.

We were in Volnay just after the harvest on our honeymoon this year. From Neal’s cellar at Justine’s with the Bitouzet pers et fils visiting.

in the glass, a very satisfying brown red with clarity and weight, a nose both floral and earthy, and a lovely perfumed first flush, strewn with challenging acid. with food and a bit of time there is a striking transparency of flavor, almost jarring, a wine of remarkable parallels and perpendiculars, and we found ourselves steering in two directions....to wash down good food or to pause and make space for contemplation. it is a pleasure, but an intellectual one, not a hedonistic one, which is a conflictingly alluring turn-off: a buzzkill that leaves you smitten. wtf, ultimately it left us wanting more, but also grateful to have reached the end, and left alert, senses intact, sharpened even, joyous, stumped, satisfied, bereft.
